TurnItIn
The process to submit your thesis/document to TurnItIn for an originality report is as follows:
Masters programmes- UCT
Submission templates:
A candidate must submit the dissertation online (see below) in a universally readable format (e.g. pdf). The Faculty Postgraduate Officer should be informed one month in advance about the intention to submit the dissertation. Together with this submission must be the Turnitin report page signed by the supervisor. Hence ALL submissions first have to be submitted via Vula before handing it in to the postgraduate office via the online tool.

Dissertations need to be submitted before the beginning of the first quarter (first day of academic year) to avoid attracting fees, and before the start of the second semester (mid-July) for a 50% fee rebate. If, however, you receive a grade of “Revise and Resubmit” then you must reregister and pay fees again w.e.f. the date on which you received the notification of the result. Supervisors will be asked by the Faculty Postgraduate Officer to submit a letter supporting submission. This letter should be supplied by the primary supervisor, if this supervisor is external; the internal supervisor must be kept informed at every stage of the process.
MMed- SUN

An electronic copy in pdf format must be submitted via the supervisor to the Head of Emergency Medicine. The submission deadline for December graduation is 1 September, and for March graduation it is 1 December.
Doctoral programmes- UCT
If you wish to include publications in your final dissertation, you have to make a formal request to the DDB for this. The PhD coordinator will be able to help you with this. It is advisable that you make a request at least 6- 12 months prior to submission. Doctoral candidates must submit their thesis through the online submission system.

Including publications within the dissertation is acceptable and special permission does not have to be applied for. For graduation in December, you should submit your dissertation before 1 August. For graduation in March the following year, you should submit your dissertation before 15 October. With your supervisors permission, notify Mr. J Coetzer (Tygerberg Campus) in writing at least six months before your intention to submit a dissertation, . It is the responsibility of your supervisor(s) to clear these deadlines with you. You must lodge three ring bound copies of your dissertation at the Administrative Office of the Deputy Registrar (care of Mr. Coetzer), which will be sent to the examiners at SUN expense. An oral exam will form part of the evaluation process.
TurnItIn

- Instead of submitting it directly to the TurnItIn (Tii) website you can submit it via the Health Sci Postgrads site on Vula. It is under Assignments and called "For TurnItIn Submission". The report will be generated by Tii and made available via Vula within 1 to 24 hours.
- To access the report go back to the same assignment and there should be an icon next to "Turnitin Report" you can click on
- You can resubmit as many times as you wish (subsequent report will not pick up your initial submission if it was also submitted via this assignment).
